December 2012 wallpaper – “Burning Flower”

December 2012 wallpaper – “Burning Flower”

December is rushing towards us and the world outside is already completely white here in Stockholm. The first snow has arrived, so it is time to bring back some color into our lives, or at least onto our desktops.

The December 2012 wallpaper is a photo of a Purple Cone-flower or Echinacea Purpurea from the Asteraceae family. The photo was taken in Stockholm in mid October this year.

The April 2012 wallpaper is based upon a photo I took a few years back at the Woodland Cemetery (Skogskyrkogården) in Stockholm.

The photo shows the Memorial Garden, which lies on a hill near the main entrance. The original design was done by Sigurd Lewerentz in 1961. Since it had the addition of a memorial site for laying flowers up on the hill it was redesigned by Göran Bergquist and Jan Wahlman as a stepped water feature for cut flowers.

The original photo has been edited with the onOne Software Adobe Photoshop plugins to give it an arty look.

May 2011 wallpaper

May 2011 wallpaper

As I am still spending time in the Netherlands I have the opportunity to celebrate Queen’s Day here today. Queen’s Day celebrates the birthday of the Queen of the Netherlands and is supposed to be a day of national unity and “togetherness”. Originally it was Queen Juliana (the mother of our current Queen Beatrix) who had birthday on 30 April. Although Queen Beatrix’s birthday is on 31 January, she officially celebrates her birthday on 30 April. On this day the Royal Family is touring through the country and visiting one or two villages to celebrate. Today they visit the villages Weert and Thorn in the most southern province of the Netherlands, Limburg.

Usually the weather is good on this day. The spring is in full swing and everything is growing and blooming with fresh colors and beautiful smells. Therefore the May 2011 wallpaper is from a photo I took earlier in the week in the eastern part of the Netherlands and shows fresh green leaves still wet from an early morning spring shower.

April 2011 wallpaper – “Pathway to Infinity”

April 2011 wallpaper – “Pathway to Infinity”

The April 2011 wallpaper is dedicated to my beloved mother, Yvonne Timmermans-Regeer. She passed away last week after a two year fight against cancer. With her passing away I loose the biggest fan of my photography. She loved the sea, so may her soul find rest and peace on this pathway to infinity.

Following a question in my previous blog post I received input via the various social network sites on which of the presented photos should become the April 2011 wallpaper. Upon popular request I have chosen photo #2. A good friend of my wife has called it “Pathway to Infinity” and so its name will be. Kim, thanks for naming this photo in a way I could not have done better myself.

The photo was taken during sunset at Camperduin near the city of Schoorl on the west coast of the Netherlands.
