Metro Art in Stockholm

Metro Art in Stockholm

Stockholm’s Metro system (in Swedish “Tunnelbana” or “T-bana”) is 110 kilometer long and houses a unique collection of sculptures, artworks and exhibitions. More than 90 of the 110 stations are beautifully decorated by artists. Just as fascinating as the artworks themselves are the stories about the artists who created them.

To hear about the artists and their artworks you can join the art walks organized by SL, the company operating the Stockholm Metro. All you need to join the art walk is any valid ticket for the Metro. You can read more about the art walks at the SL website.

The photos below are taken in the metro stations of Solna Centrum, Kungsträdgården and T-Centralen.

Winter in Stockholm

Winter in Stockholm

At the end of January, when winter had come over Stockholm, I did a private photo walk through the city center. We walked from Skeppsholmen via Gamla Stan towards Slussen.

The August 2014 free desktop wallpaper is taken at Sandhamn in the outskirts of the Stockholm archipelago. A few sailboats are passing by the coastline during midday in this high-key image.

From this month and onwards I will no longer put the calendar in the image to create a cleaner look at the photo.

At summertime the Stockholm archipelago is packed with ferries that will bring you to many of the 30,000 islands around the capital of Sweden. The Stockholm archipelago is vast and covers 1,700 square kilometers (150 km from north to south and 80 km from east to west). It is a very popular tourist attraction to take an archipelago ferry for half a day or a full day from central Stockholm and visit one or multiple islands.

For more information and timetables of the ferries please visit Waxholmsbolaget.se or Strömma.se.

The July 2014 wallpaper was taken from Västerbron (The West Bridge) and shows one of the ferries sailing from Slussen to Drottningholm Palace, the private residence of the Swedish Royal Family.

The June 2014 wallpaper brings vibrant natural spring colors to your desktop.

Springtime is undoubtedly one of the best periods in Sweden. When the country has defrosted and the snow and ice has melted you can enjoy the burst of colors in nature. Spring came early this year due to a mild winter.

The photo was taken early May this year in a park at Södermalm in Stockholm.
